A Selection of Masks for Every Skin Need

Masking is a cornerstone of the Korean skincare regime, I mean the sheet mask was invented by the Asian Beauty industry!

Masking can be a great way to target your skincare goals, help maintain or add moisture or just act as a hydration boost whenever you need it.

Here are some of my favorite masking solutions for every skincare need!

Wash-Off Masks

Skinfood Coconut Sugar Mask

A thick mask that contains micro coconut flower sugar granules and coconut pulp to impart a mild physical exfoliation experience (if physical exfoliation isn’t your thing, don’t rub it in).

I mostly use this as a wash-off mask and rarely use the scrub, this is a favorite for in-shower masking to help protect my skin from the moisture-stripping hot water.

  • I reach for this when: I need deep moisture, protection from hot water.
  • Notable Ingredients: Coconut oil and coconut, lemon, apple, and orange extracts.
  • Best for: Dry, dehydrated skin, sensitive skin.
  • Free from: Alcohol, fragrance and essential oils.
  • Type: Wash-off with mild scrub

Ingredients: Glycerin, Coconut Flower Sugar, Pentaerythrityl Tetraethylhexanoate, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Cetearyl Alcohol, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Fruit, 1, 2-Hexanediol, Cetearyl Glucoside, Ethylhexylglycerin, Titanium Dioxide, Water, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Fruit Extract, Xanthan Gum, Glucose, Citrus Limon (Lemon) Fruit Extract, Pyrus Malus (Apple) Fruit Extract, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Fruit Extract, Carica Papaya (Papaya)

I’m From Ginseng Mask

This mask is a thin consistency meant to be massaged on the face for a few minutes before being left to sit on the skin as a mask pack. Ginseng is well known for its ability to help skin’s circulation and this mask will impart a healthy glow. Because ginseng has a heating element to it (in food and in skincare) you will notice a warming sensation at first when you start to massage this on your face, this is normal and usually non-irritating. I also notice this mask has a visible (if temporary) effect on pores, making them look clearer and smaller!

  • I reach for this when: My skin looks dull, skin needs a detox and pores need a healthy flush!
  • Notable ingredients: 3.97% Korean Gingseng from Geumsan County. Korean ginseng is known for having nearly double the amount of beneficial saponins then western ginseng.
  • Best for: all skin types, pore care and anti-aging.
  • Free from: Alcohol, essential oils.
  • Type: Massage mask, can also be left on as a mask pack.

Ingredients: Glycerin, Red Ginseng Extract, Butylene Glycol, Panax Ginseng Seed Oil, Glycyrrhiza Uralensis (Licorice) Root Extract, Paeonia Albiflora Root Extract, Angelica Gigas Root Extract, Rheum Palmatum Root Extract, Angelica Pubescens Root Extract, Schizonepeta Tenuifolia Extract, Phellodendron Amurense Bark Extract, Malt Extract, Ethoxydiglycol, Hydrolyzed Glycosaminoglycans, Hyaluronic Acid, Boswellia Serrata Resin Extract, 1,2-Hexanediol, Water, Ethylhexylglycerin, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Isohexadecane, Polysorbate 80, Sodium Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Fragrance

DIY Mask:

Toner Mask

Toner masks are a great DIY that gives your skin a quick 2-minute pick me up while using products you already have on hand!

To accomplish this you’ll need some 5 layer cotton (you can use dry sheet mask pucks but I find those require a large amount of toner that I’m not always willing to part with).

Soak the 5 layer cotton in your favorite toner or essence of choice, arrange the cotton over your face and leave on for 2-3 minutes to allow the toner to deeply penetrate your skin. You can choose your toner or essence based on your needs, but a few I love are:
